Media Advisory 1: FPC Announces Briefing Centers at 2016 Political Conventions

July 11, 2016

We are pleased to inform you that the FPCs will again setup briefing centers for foreign media at the Republican National Convention (July 18-21 in Cleveland, OH) and the Democratic National Convention (July 25-28 in Philadelphia, PA).  Both briefing centers will be inside the convention security perimeter and will require convention media credentials to access.  An FPC-issued credential or other proof of foreign media affiliation is also required.  The final application deadline for convention media credentials was April 1, and late registration is not possible.  Please see the convention websites below for details.

Our briefing center at the Republican National Convention will be located in the media center in Booth # CC550 (please note: that this is outside Quicken Loans Arena itself).  Our briefing center at the Democratic National Convention will be in the media center in Workspace # 832 (please note: that this is outside Wells Fargo Center itself).  Both briefing centers will host speakers during the conventions (academic and media experts, party and campaign spokespersons or surrogates, and other subject matter experts) and provide limited, first come, first served filing space for up to 70 foreign media.  Our briefing centers will have free WiFi, and tables and chairs with electrical power strips where media can work or charge their devices.

Briefings at the conventions will be announced via email, just like our regular briefings at both FPCs, and afterwards we will distribute the video and transcript per usual practice. Media who are not able to attend in person will still be able to access video and transcripts on the FPC website, www.fpc.state.gov, as soon as they are posted.  FPC events will also be streamed live on our website.  The Republican and Democratic National Conventions will both provide live video feeds of events on the convention floor, which will be broadcast in the FPC briefing centers (when we are not having our own briefings).  To arrange your individual access to live video feeds of both conventions for use in your broadcasts please contact the media logistics staff on the websites below.

Please be on the lookout for additional updates from the FPCs as the conventions approach, and direct any questions about the conventions themselves to the Republican and Democratic National Convention staff contacts on the websites below.
