Thirteen foreign media participated in a WFPC reporting tour which provided an overview of the U.S. Senate race in the state of Virginia. The program included an introductory briefing on “Virginia Politics” by Professor Toni-Michelle C. Travis of George Mason University followed by attendance at the official debate between incumbent Senator Mark Warner (Democrat) and opponent Ed Gillespie (Republican) organized by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. The gaggles by the candidates immediately after the debate provided the foreign media an opportunity to interact with Senator Warner and candidate Gillespie. The program highlighted the U.S. democratic process and more specifically, explored Virginia’s transition from a “red” to “purple” to a “blue” state.
