On July 21, 10 foreign journalists had the opportunity to see DC’s commitment to sustainable food practices in action. The tour showcased both environmental and economic sustainability models in DC's food industry. At the University of DC’s Muirkirk Farms, journalists received a guided tour of Muirkirk’s state-of-the-art urban agriculture research farm, and heard from expert agronomists about green jobs development
programs, water resource management, and strategies for providing DC’s neediest residents with nutritious meals. Journalists then visited Union Kitchen, an industrial kitchen and business incubator that allows DC’s emerging food entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, adopt sustainable business practices, and contribute to DC’s fresh, local food movement.
