The NYFPC facilitated media coverage of a July 2 naturalization ceremony for 150 new citizens from 46 countries. Twenty-two journalists took B-roll during the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and taped interviews with America’s newest citizens. A copy of the Declaration of Independence handwritten by Thomas Jefferson served as the backdrop in many pictures and videos. New York Secretary of State Cesar Perales made welcoming remarks in Spanish. This ceremony, like the one held at the White House, was part of an effort to welcome approximately 9,000 new U.S. citizens in the week leading up to July 4 and as President Obama said: “commemorate the contributions and sacrifices of individuals throughout the history of our nation…” including, “immigrants who have worked and sacrificed for years to get to this point.”
