The Washington Foreign Press Center (WFPC) took six media outlets to the World Refugee Day Academy, a Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) program. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) Anne C. Richard and Head of the D.C. Office of the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Shelly Pitterman discussed USG efforts to support refugee resettlement in the United States. Journalists also conducted one-on-one interviews with refugees from Afghanistan, Burma, Bhutan, Nigeria, Iraq, Ethiopia, Liberia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Vietnam. As a final piece, journalists participated in a roundtable with both Assistant Secretary Richard and Mr. Pitterman.
