The New York Foreign Press Center tour introduced correspondents from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland to Texas’ successful efforts to diversify the state’s energy portfolio by exploring energy options from solar and wind to natural gas and oil. Today Texas leads the nation in energy production. The visit, billed as an opportunity to cover U.S. energy security, included meetings with the Energy Institute; natural gas, solar, and wind companies; environment and advocacy groups; the state regulatory body; the Electric Reliability Council of Texas which manages the transmission grid for the state; and visits on the Barnett Shale to a hydraulic fracturing site, drilling rig, and natural gas compression and processing plant.
