The Foreign Press Center commemorated International Jazz Day with a special program at Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Rusty Hassan, jazz producer and teacher for the past 45 years gave journalists a historical overview of the evolution and development of jazz as a musical genre in the U.S. Davey Yarborough, jazz recording artist and educator, spoke about his career and the importance of jazz education and appreciation. After the briefings, Davey Yarborough’s jazz class students performed two sets for the foreign journalists.
Journalists had one-on-one interviews with both briefers and performing students. Participants were: Australian Broadcasting, ANS Independent Broadcasting (Azerbaijan), Guangming Daily(China), Euronews TV ( France) Al Tahir ( Egypt), Il Gironale (Italy), Poltika newspaper and Magazines (Serbia), and BBC Persian Service.
